After more than a decade of pondering, deliberating, a little experimenting, and a lot of procrastinating (not to mention pursuing careers and raising kids), we have finally done it and begun to raise our own beef cattle on our farm right outside Lynchburg, TN. This is something that we began to consider after our dad passed away about 10 years ago. We are now the 5th generation of Farrar’s to operate this farm.
We’re not doing this to get rich (really, I don’t know many farmers that are in it for the money). Rather, our sole motivation is to purchase and preserve a farm that has been in our family for five generations. If we are fortunate enough to have any money left over, it will be donated directly to local causes that feed and care for those in need.
While it’s taken us longer than we had hoped to get here, we our proud to introduce our very own Lynchburg Beef. The obvious follow-up question is, what makes our beef different? First, our cattle will spend their entire lives in a pasture (and not crammed in a feedlot) and are primarily grass fed. What sets us apart is that we add the additional (and, at least if you are a cow, delicious) supplemental feed of spent mash from the local distilleries. The outcome is tastier, more tender beef, happier and healthier cows, and a better environment.
Our beef is always hormone and antibiotic free. It is also USDA inspected, dry-aged, and vacuum packed to maintain freshness.
We offer beef for sale as either individual retail packs or in bulk as a share of the entire animal.
